Allergy

ALLERGY, also known as Atopy or Allergic Hypersensitivity, is an exaggerated reaction produced by the body's immune system in response to a specific substance, called Allergen. In worst cases, Allergy symptoms can be life-threatening and even fatal in sensitive individuals.

Any environmental substance, which is normally harmless to most people, can be an Allergen.

Most common allergens include certain foods, vegetables and fruits (tomatoes, mangos, strawberry), cosmetics, plants, flowers, pollen, fragrances, dust, and many other environmental substances that are mistakenly identified by the body as harmful.

Allergy symptoms can be classified as mild, moderate, and severe.

Mild allergic reactions include rash, watery eyes and congestion. Moderate allergy symptoms include itchiness, allergic asthma, breathing difficulty, etc.

Severe allergic reactions, called Anaphylaxis or anaphylactic shock, are rare yet potentially deadly. Severe allergic reactions are associated with abdominal pain, low blood pressure, lymph node enlargement, vomiting, etc.

There are various types of Allergies as well as various Allergy treatments and Allergy medicines. Allergy treatments include taking Antihistamine medications, Decongestants, Corticosteroids, and other drugs to prevent and treat Allergy symptoms.

Allergy medications that are commonly used to treat allergic reactions include Allegra (Fexofenadine), Atarax (Hydroxyzin), Zyrtec (Cetirizine). Before taking any Allergy medication, ask your doctor for treatment recommendation and advice.

Allergy is a global health problem which is found to be growing and prevalent. People of any age, race, and gender may suffer from Allergy.
